Enjoy the taste of the Mediterranean with authentic Feta cheese

Feta cheese is one of the Mediterranean’s favorite cheeses, known for its creamy texture, rich aroma, and characteristic salty notes. Made from unpasteurized sheep and goat milk from animals grazing on lush meadows and pastures in specific regions, feta has a unique, natural character. Its taste can range from mildly salty to tangy, depending on the aging process. At the same time, its milky and citrusy notes are often enriched with subtle hints of herbs and nutty undertones, making it a perfect addition to various dishes.

Authentic feta cheese proudly holds a protected designation of origin (PDO). It matures in brine for at least two months, developing its distinctive intensity and long-lasting freshness. Besides being a top-tier delicacy, feta is an excellent source of protein, calcium, and healthy fats, making it a great choice for a balanced diet.

Always in Good Company

Enjoy feta cheese in a variety of specialties, from traditional salads with tomatoes, cucumbers, and olives to Greek pies, homemade Burek, and baked versions with honey and spices. It pairs perfectly in spreads combined with yogurt, herbs, and olive oil or served with fresh bread and vegetables. Don’t hesitate to indulge in feta with fruits like watermelon, figs, grapes, pears, or melon, as their sweetness beautifully balances the cheese’s saltiness.

When it comes to wine pairing, feta goes wonderfully with fresh and aromatic white wines like Sauvignon Blanc, which enhance its citrus and mineral notes. If you prefer red wine, pair it with Pinot Noir, which offers a fruity freshness that complements the cheese’s creamy texture.

Traditional Greek Saganaki – Shrimp with Feta Cheese

Ingredients:

  • 500 g shrimp
  • 200 g Dodoni feta cheese
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 120 ml white wine
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 60 ml water
  • 200 g cherry tomatoes
  • 1 red onion
  • 4 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ bunch of dill
  • ½ bunch of parsley
  • salt and pepper

Clean the shrimp. Heat olive oil in a wok, add finely chopped garlic, and sauté the shrimp for 2 minutes. Pour in the wine, cook for another 3 minutes, then remove the shrimp and set aside. In the same oil, sauté the finely chopped red onion, dissolved tomato paste, crushed cherry tomatoes, salt, pepper, dill, and parsley. Let it simmer for 6-8 minutes, adding water if needed. Once the sauce thickens, return the shrimp and cook for another 20 minutes. Sprinkle with crumbled feta cheese, cover, and let it melt into the sauce. Serve garnished with parsley and additional crumbled feta.
